What is the lighting requirements for escalator steps?

The landing plates and steps of an escalator must be provided with a minimum of 5 foot candles for the full length of the escalator travel.  If the normal building lighting in the area of the escalators cannot meet this requirement, step tread lighting or under handrail lighting can be provided by many of the escalator manufacturers.
